Developing Opportunity Awareness and Career Decision-Making Skills in Teenagers:

The Teacher’s Guide

1. Introduction

This Teacher’s Guide, Developing Opportunity Awareness and Career Decision-Making Skills in Teenagers, is designed to support career guidance teachers in helping learners navigate one of the most important journeys of their lives—understanding themselves and making informed career choices.

In today’s fast-changing world, success is no longer defined by academic performance alone. It also depends on the ability to recognise opportunities, think critically, and make sound decisions. Yet many teenagers face confusion and pressure when choosing subjects, skills, and career paths. This guide provides practical approaches to help learners explore their interests, identify their strengths, and connect these to real-world opportunities.

Using an engaging education story alongside opportunity-based resources, the guide enables learners to build decision-making skills and develop a deeper awareness of viable opportunities within their communities and society.

Ultimately, this resource supports teachers in guiding learners beyond uncertainty toward purposeful, informed, and confident career choices.
